Malaysians run 300,000km to live their best lives

Participants dashing for health and wellness at Herbalife 5km Sustain Run held at UiTM Shah Alam.

More than 4,600 Malaysian participants collectively covered a distance of over 290,000km in an Asia-Pacific run series organised by a premier health and wellness company.

Live Your Best Life Herbalife Run 2023 drew over 15,000 participants, covering more than a million kilometres in Malaysia, South Korea, Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.

The culmination of the event in Malaysia was Herbalife 5km Sustain Run in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

The event was held simultaneously in four UiTM campuses – Shah Alam (Selangor), Seremban (Negri Sembilan), Jasin (Melaka) and Permatang Pauh (Penang) – drawing more than 1,800 running enthusiasts.

Part of an ongoing partnership between Herbalife and UiTM centred around nutrition and sports science, the event reflected shared synergy in promoting healthy lifestyles among youths at the country’s largest educational institution, according to Herbalife Malaysia.

Braving rainy weather, the participants demonstrated passion and resilience, with 22-year-old Muhammad Hazim Zuhairi Azahari, a computer science student from UiTM Shah Alam and training tower runner, emerging as the winner and taking home a voucher worth RM1,000 for sporting goods and apparel.

Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore general manager Steven Chin said the 5km run was one good example of the significant partnership between Herbalife and UiTM.

“More importantly, it highlights our mutual and long-term dedication to fostering community spirit and encouraging development of a more active generation of youth.”

UiTM Student Affairs Department director of student development Assoc Prof Dr Shahsuzan Zakaria said collaborating with an industry leader like Herbalife provided students with invaluable exposure and opportunities to develop personally, preparing them with skills and values to embrace life after graduating.

“We look forward to more activities that contribute towards establishing a strong foundation for health-consciousness.”

Nurul Izzati Mohazir, 21, from Applied Sciences Faculty of UiTM Shah Alam, said the 5km run allowed them to be a part of a sporting event with friends, and had inspired them to continue engaging in a healthy lifestyle beyond the event.

“We can all participate in sports activities such as these by taking simple steps for healthier lives, such as going for brisk walks, slowly developing into jogs, and eventually being able to partake in these events and possibly win!”

Live Your Best Life Herbalife Run 2023 raised US$61,000 (RM289,000) for Herbalife Nutrition Foundation, bringing the total to US$300,000 (RM1.4mil) raised since 2020 to provide nutrition to needy children in Asia-Pacific.
