OVER 260 enthusiasts took part in the Mountainbiker Enduro Championship 2022 (MEC2022) organised by the Mersing District Council (MDM) at Bukit Selantai.

MDM president Mohd Norman Noh said when the championship was introduced in 2019, three events were held in Bukit 300 Teluk Batik in Perak as well as Langkawi Geopark and Lembah Bujang in Kedah.

“This year, Bukit Selantai was included as a venue for the extreme sport which is based on the concept of the Enduro World Series,” he said.

The participants had to go through terrain comprising uphill and downhill challenges, he said.

“This championship gave our mountain bikers a chance to compete locally,” he said, adding there were also entrants from Singapore and Brunei.

Bukit Selantai was chosen after improvements were made, leading to it being listed as the best mountain biking trail in the country.

It is next to Pantai Air Papan, giving participants a panoramic view of the adjacent Teluk Buih too, said Mohd Norman.

“The hill has also become a popular weekend destination for hikers,” he said.

Mohd Norman added that MDM was planning to make the event one of its tourism products to attract visitors.
