In conjunction with World Hijab Day on Feb 1, we take a look at some stylish local personalities.
Last Sunday was World Hijab Day, an event celebrated in 116 countries worldwide since 2013.
In Kuala Lumpur, an event was held on that day at KLCC Park where a range of activities were held. Organised by a group of young Muslimahs called the Stellas, it was also a collaboration with World Hijab Day Ambassador for Kuala Lumpur, Emi Idura Che Hashim, and Muslimah Fashion Company, Hijab2go.
Singer Shazrina Azman, better known as Mizz Nina, was also on hand to share her experiences on donning the hijab.
To mark the day, we’ve selected some of our favourite hijab-wearing personalities who are not only stylish, some of them even have their own range of scarves.
Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, better known as Neelofa, is one of our top local personalities.
The enterprising actress, who is also a television host, even has her own hijab line, called Naelofar Hijab, which is extremely popular.
Hailing from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, her favoured hijab style tends to be the draped version.
When you think FashionValet, Vivy Yusof immediately comes to mind. The enterprising businesswoman is the managing director and the face of her brand.
Young, stylish and social media savvy, Vivy plays with both pastels and strong colours. She also has her own line of scarves (are we surprised?) called dUck, and like everything that Vivy does, it’s a hit.
Singer, songwriter, and businesswoman Yuna is a force to be reckoned with. Taking the world by storm with her lyrics and pop folk tunes, she can do no wrong.
Her personality is matched by her fashion sense which is always punched up with bright colours and trendy accessories worn over her signature turban.
She also has her own range of clothes, scarves included, called 14NOV based on her personal style.
Datuk Siti Nurhaliza
Datuk Siti Nurhaliza has quite an accomplished repertoire with singer, songwriter, record producer, television presenter and businesswoman all placed securely under her belt. The international sensation looks flawless to boot with her modern take on the “kurung” and pretty headscarves.
More often than not, her outfits do outshine her smile with stones and sequins as she is not a stranger to standing out. And yes, she too has her own line of scarves, called Siti Nurhaliza by Ariani.
Demure and modest, Natasha Hudson is certainly an image of sweetness and simplicity. The model, actress, writer, singer and author wears chic turbans worn with bright hues and in various textured fabrics.
She has a line called Dreamcloud which has a range of clothing and scarves.
Beautiful and accomplished, actress Ummi Nazeera is also currently working as the executive director of her family’s company.
She’s always been one of the more stylish local personalities and since donning the hijab, that hasn’t changed. While she may not wear too many colours, she’s always perfectly put together and currently is very much into big skirts.
