Peruse a range of designer clothes, plus other products such as art, cosmetics, interiors and textiles at Menara Martrade on Oct 22.

A sample sale is usually the best place to get first pickings of fresh runway designs. Unfortunately, such an event is not often accessible to all. Only those well acquainted within the industry are made aware of it happening.

The inaugural Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW) 2014, organised by Stylo International in collaboration with national trade promotion agency Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), is opening up the opportunity to the public.

This involves an eight-hour retail event held at the close of MFW. Preceding that are three days of exciting back-to-back activities – trade shows, exhibitions, fashion events and fashion parties.

Claiming to be the only trade fashion week in Malaysia, MFW is set to create a milestone in the local fashion scene. A selection of promising talents from the region will put together a dramatic display of high-fashion and contemporary designs.

Twelve fashion shows with 61 designers are expected to pack MFW with fashionistas, local and international media, aspiring designers, fashion students and various others from the industry.

Some of the designers featuring at MFW include Keraia (Taiwan), Pleatation (Singapore), Phuong My (Vietnam), Rinda Salmun (Indonesia), Lapalette (South Korea) and Roland Alzate (Philippines).

Malaysian fashion will be represented by the likes of Keith Kee, Carven Ong, Max Mak, Cassey Gan, Hayden Koh, Bill Keith, Melinda Looi, Sazzy Falak, Yii, Joe Chia and Bon Zainal.

Matrade’s trade initiative Intrade (International Trade Malaysia), the annual trade show in its eight edition this year, places special emphasis on Fashion, Art, Cosmetics, Interiors and Textile (Facit) which is showcased through MFW, as well.

Come the final day on Oct 22, style lovers can peruse a range of designer clothes, as well as as art, cosmetics, interiors and textiles. This special sample sale will be held at Menara Matrade from 2pm to 10pm.

According to the president and CEO of Stylo International and co-chairman of MFW 2014 Datuk Nancy Yeoh, sample sales at fashion weeks remain extremely popular amongst style lovers.

“A diverse range of design pieces will be made available at a fraction of the (retail) price. This is probably the first time that a sale upon a fashion week’s close is opened up to the public here – and at such a scale,” Yeoh comments.
