An author’s last book leaves her fans wanting more.
DIANA Wynne Jones, whose books have bewitched, bothered and bewildered thousands of readers the world over, died this year from lung cancer, in March. Jones’s final work of fiction, Earwig And The Witch (HarperCollins, 139 pages, ISBN: 978-0007416851), was published three months later, yet the author’s bio states that “Diana lives in Bristol with her husband” (my italics). In a way, this is accurate as the author will continue to live for as long as her books are read. However, I can’t help imagining Jones, still alive and well, continuing writing her stories in an alternate world or timeline – just like those in her books.
