Top 5 stunts that Tom Cruise insisted on doing himself

Cruising up the Burj Khalifa, because that's how Tom Cruise rolls.

In an effort to prove that he's not just a pretty boy, Tom Cruise has been doing some of the stunts in his movies himself.

The freeform rock-climbing in Mission Impossible II

Probably the only memorable part of this movie came in the beginning, when we were reintroduced to Ethant Hunt via this breathtakingly suspenseful rock-climbing sequence that Cruise did by himself (albeit with a harness).

Best bit: Cruise leaps to a ledge, slips, and slides... and manages to catch the edge of the ledge, and cooly takes a breath while hanging on with one hand.

Uh oh, now is not the time to be getting an itch.

Climbing the Burj Khalifa in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Not content with mere cliffs, Cruise tackled the world’s tallest building in the fourth Mission Impossible movie.

Best bit: Running out of time and wall-gripping gloves out of juice, Cruise ties himself to a fire hose and runs down the wall outside the building.

Bike versus bull in Knight And Day

The movie was forgettable, but the bike chase sequence through the streets of Seville was superbly done, with some excellent stunts (air time!).

Best bit: Cruise rides his bike through a bull stampede. Talk about grabbing the bull by the horns.

Car chase in Jack Reacher

One of Cruise’s more underrated movies, the showpiece of the movie was an almost seven-minute long car chase in which Cruise does all the driving himself.

Best bit: Knowing that he has nowhere left to go, Reacher opens the door, then, cool as hell, steps out and strolls nonchalantly to join a crowd of onlookers while letting his car roll slowly down the road to be surrounded by police cars.

Only Cruise could make getting out of a car look so cool.

Infamous sofa leap on The Oprah Winfrey Show

Look how dangerous that is! What if he slipped and fell on his pretty face? What if he missed a footing and sprained his ankle? What if Winfrey had decided to wrestle him down and put him in a chokehold?

Best bit: Actually, the whole thing was a bit painful to watch, to be honest.
