For the Mah Meri community, one of their most significant celebrations is Hari Moyang or Spirit’s Day. And though their ancestral home on Pulau Carey in Selangor, Malaysia, has seen rapid modernisation, they continue to observe the festival.
Nowdays, Hari Moyang has taken on an itinerary-worthy addition for tourists and visitors to their island. The Mah Meri – one of Malaysia’s many Orang Asli groups – have even invited outsiders to participate in their rituals.
