Safaris are for niche travellers and now they have a site that is billed as the world's largest to check out what's new.

If you’re interested in safaris, go to SafariBookings.com.

AN online crowd-sourced safari guide that launched this week is being billed as one of the largest and most comprehensive in the world, allowing users to compare the major safari countries and tour operators against the advice of 2,200 user-generated reviews.

SafariBookings.com is the result of a two-year web search for safari-goers from 50 countries who contributed 2,200 user reviews.

The site also features expert advice from guidebook authors who have contributed to publications such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guides and Frommer’s. Reviews cover the eight major safari countries in Africa; Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia; 140 parks, and more than 3,500 photos from wildlife photographers.

By the end of the year, the site says the project will have 60% of all major safari operators represented on the site.

Meanwhile, in Travel + Leisure’s 2012 safari rankings, tour operator (www.micato.com) Micato Safaris was rated the best, followed by African Adventure Company, African Travel, Ker & Downey and andBeyond.

Other comprehensive safari sites include (www.africantravel.com) African Travel Gateway, which likewise offers tours spanning the continent, from Botswana to Swaziland, and (www.safariguideafrica.com) Safari Guide Africa, member of the South Africa Services Tourism Association. – AFP RelaxNews
