Ask The Expert is a column where we get experts to answer questions on topics related to fashion and beauty.
Perky Lash founder Jasmin Tay Min Min answers your questions on the most popular types of lash extensions, post-treatment care and whether you can still use mascara with your extensions.
What are the most popular types of lash extensions? – Nur, KL
Manga Lash, which is characterised by longer, individual spiky lash segments that stand out against shorter, feathery lashes.
There is also Ultralite Lash, which is 50% lighter than normal lashes but look completely natural.
Another type is the LED Lash, a safer and more comfortable alternative to traditional lash extensions.
This involves applying the extensions under a LED lamp, using a special glue that dries immediately under this light.
It reduces the glue fumes and makes the whole session more comfortable, especially for those with sensitive eyes.
There’s no downtime as customers can be in contact with water immediately after the session.
It can last up to eight weeks, compared to regular lash extensions which can only last up to four weeks.

What is the difference between a lash lift and semi permanent mascara? – Amanda, PJ
Lash Lift is also called Collagen Lash Lift and Tint, which curls and enhances the natural lashes without damage.
This special collagen treatment is used to shine, nourish and strengthen your eyelashes. It can last between four to six weeks.
Semi permanent mascara is a coating applied to your lashes after a lash lift.
It has a similar effect to eyelash mascara and it can last for up to two weeks.
Your lashes will look darker, bolder and more voluminous compared to your natural lashes.
How long will a set of eyelash extensions last? – Claire, KL
They should last up to four weeks.

Avoid the following: oil-based products, contact with water for the first 24 hours, plucking the lashes and hot or steamy environments.
Do also ensure you comb your lashes regularly.
What about using mascara after a lash extension? – Leila, KL
No. Mascara can cause your lashes to be even heavier and it will be excess stress on your natural lashes.
This extra weight can lead to premature fallout. Mascara is also very difficult to be removed and it will attach to your lashes, as well as making the adhesive break.

What are some allergic reactions I should look out for after a lash extension? – Julia, Kuching
Itchy, red and swollen eyes. We provide patch test services for those with sensitive eyes before doing lash extensions.
A patch test is a quick and convenient way to check if an individual is allergic to any of the eyelash extension products and one is advised to look out for any negative reaction in the next 48 hours.
If there are no issues, you can proceed with the full set of eyelash extensions with ease.
We also recommend the LED lash extension service as it reduces sensitivity issues.
Will the extensions fall out on their own or do I need to go to the shop to remove them? – S. Lim, KL
You can let the extensions fall out naturally on their own or remove them professionally at the shop.
