As the latest hot fashion accessory, loafers are not loafing around

A versatile flat shoe that has made it into the mainstream, loafers are being worn by everyone, including women.

Previously relegated to complementing preppy ensembles or seen exclusively on the feet of male academics, today the loafer is appearing on every runway, on tons of celebrities and in countless campaigns.

Haerin from popular girl group NewJeans and Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman are among the stars recently spotted sporting stylish loafers and looking comfortable to boot.

The good news is they pair well with pretty much everything, but here are a few tips on how to make this type of footwear work for you.

One look you can try is to wear them with high socks – embrace the “preppy schoolgirl” look by pairing loafers with high socks and a plaid, pleated skirt.

Throw in a white shirt and a denim jacket or bomber jacket for an added edge.

Another look that’s so hot right now is pairing maxi dresses with this current “it” shoe.

Go with a loafer that has chunky soles and wear socks in the same shade as your footwear, or no socks at all (or footsies/invisible socks that absorb your sweat but can’t be seen around the ankle).

Finally, pretty much any type of pants go with a pair of loafers – from leggings and all varieties of denim (skinny, bootleg, baggy) to formal and dress pants.
