Alexander McQueen's collection was driven by a need to be bold and heroic. Creative director Sarah Burton sent out her models as "warrior women", with the colour red telling the story of a powerful romance.

Proenza Schouler similarly presented boldness. It was one sleek look after another. “She’s blanketed in a protective layer of strength and confidence,” the label's co-founder, Lazaro Hernandez, said backstage at the runway presentation.

Some looks incorporated chain mail, while others were emboldened by the fiery colour of red. For Burberry, the collection was all about being an eye-catching amalgamation of textures, colours and embellishments.

Balenciaga's show saw models walking against a pitch dark backdrop. While black was the central theme, splashes of red made its way into the collection to provide an intense and unforgettable contrasting effect.

The Giambattista Valli looks were largely sweet. Prim overcoats and sheer lace dresses were seen populating the collection. So, when a red design walked out – it immediately becomes something to be remembered.
