An iconic night repair formula experiences another breakthrough

Estee Lauder’s “little brown bottle”, with its apothecary dropper, is a skincare icon.

The legendary Advanced Night Repair or ANR, as it is more fondly known, is a cult classic from the brand that has been repairing all types of skin for over 38 years.

Launched in 1982 as Night Repair, the serum heralded a new era in skin repair. Everything about the original product was unique - the texture, the formula, the technology - and remains so to this very day.

This year, Estee Lauder introduces its most advanced repair serum to date, the ANR Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex, inspired by unprecedented discoveries in the scientific field of Epigenetics.

With the breakthrough new Chronolux Power Signal Technology, the new ANR helps repair the look of lines faster than ever, in just three weeks!

Also, for the first time, it helps skin increase its natural renewal of fresh new cells and production of collagen for firmer skin, and its fast absorption works to reduce the look of multiple signs of ageing, helping to protect the skin from the environmental assaults of modern life.

For the past seven years, Estée Lauder scientists researched over 80 micro signaling molecules found in skin cells to better understand their role in skin ageing.

In this discovery, Estée Lauder identified a specific micro signaling molecule that is essential to skin’s natural repair and promotes multiple vital anti-ageing pathways. Significantly, this micro signaling molecule helps skin increase its natural renewal of fresh, new cells and boosts its natural collagen production.

Instrumental in the evolution of Estee Lauder products and this breakthrough is Dr Nadine Pernodet, who joined The Estee Lauder Companies in 2007 and is currently leading the Global Skin Biology & Bioactives group.

She is responsible for defining the future directions of research and to identify new biological pathways, as well as developing and testing future technology for all global skincare products, including the iconic Advanced Night Repair, Revitalizing Supreme+ and Perfectionist Pro.

“New Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex has everything skin needs for maximising nightly repair, protecting from daytime environmental aggressors and boosting long-lasting hydration, ” said Pernodet in a Q&A. “The serum significantly reduces the look of every key sign of ageing - lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and dehydration while reducing the look of pores and increasing skin firmness.”

According to Pernodet, hydration is so important in a nighttime repair serum as this is when the skin’s natural processes are at its peak, and where its moisture barrier is at its thinnest.

“That is why hydration is so critical before bed. Dehydration can also accelerate skin damage, ” she explained. “With skin plumping hyaluronic acid, New Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex was formulated to absorb quickly, providing skin with 72-hour hydration and significantly boost its moisture levels. At night this hydration is critical to creating the optimal environment for skin to maximise its natural nightly repair of visible skin damage.”

On how the breakthrough formula, the new Chronolux Power Signal Technology and how it works, Perdonet explained that in addition to ingredients targeting skin’s natural synchronisation and purification activities previously part of ChronoluxCB, the new formula now contains a new signal ingredient.

The adansonia digitata seed extract boosts the level of this micro signaling molecule they identified as critical to supporting skin’s natural repair.

“The resulting new Chronolux Power Signal Technology is proven to ignite a connected repair network for optimised and fast repair, so skin now has the power to support critical anti-ageing pathways and rapidly respond to its environment.

“And for the first time, it provides youth-generating power, supporting the creation of fresh, new skin cells and production of collagen, ” she added.

The revolutionary serum will, among other things: help ignite a connected repair network to help promote skin’s natural repair processes; help support the natural synchronisation of skin’s renewal processes; support the natural purification process that helps skin cells eliminate their own internal debris; and help increase natural skin cell renewal, creation of new skin cells and the natural production of collagen.

After only one dropper, clinical trials showed that the skin was more radiant and plumped and the skin barrier was strengthened, whereas long-term usage ranging from three weeks and beyond made the skin more even-toned and healthy, with a new bounce and vitality.

After only three weeks of usage, more than 90% of those who tested the product found that their skin’s elasticity had improved and it felt firmer.

The reimagined version of the apothecary-inspired “little brown bottle” is now transformed into stunningly crafted premium, recyclable glass, with a sleek silhouette and an enhanced translucency gradient for a more ‘lit from within' glow.

Longtime users of the serum will be happy to note that while it is packed with numerous new benefits, the texture remains the same and it has been tested on multiple skin types, including Asian skin.

The New Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex will be available at all Estée Lauder counters beginning August 1,2020.
