His designs for women have been recognised (and celebrated) all over the world for bridging the lines of rich cultural heritage and contemporary sophistication. He often combines the eclectic with the practical, resulting in clothes that are fashionable yet wearable.
Bernard Chandran is now turning his hands to creating menswear – and it is just as impressive. His very first collection for men is described as having captured the spirit of an energetic individual who gives thought to his looks.
Made for “the active intellectual”, Chandran uses the same approach he used for womenswear. Detailed threadwork embroidery and metallic finishings for instance, are seen to add a luxurious refinement to modern athletic wear.
As the 48-year-old Malaysian designer is best known for his modern technique of embellishment, Chandran has managed to once again deliver a three-dimensional form of ready-to-wear with remarkable details, as well.
Chandran even goes so far as to push the idea of gender-blending by using a mix of women’s fabrics such as silk organza, raffia and lurex to create a truly contemporary Bernard Chandran Spring/Summer 2016 collection for bold gents.
