Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza started actively vlogging (video blogging) on YouTube recently and boy has it been fascinating!

With the help of her assistants, the cameras follow the renowned songstress as she goes about her day, conquering tasks big and small, running into some hilarious encounters along the way.

1. Everyone wants a selfie with her

And we mean EVERYONE. Whether it’s the sweet and shy aunty or the buff gym-going dude, Siti gets approached by Malaysians from all walks of life asking her for a selfie in every other vlog.

We imagine it can be cumbersome having so many people asking for a selfie while you’re trying to get stuff done but Siti doesn’t show this.

No matter how many times she gets stopped for a picture, she happily obliges her fans. In fact, she even takes the selfie for them like that time a fan’s hand was shaking so much (no judgement, we’d be too if we were taking a selfie with the country’s no. 1 singer), Siti took over.

2. Siti reveals her SPM results

On one such selfie-taking occasion, a stranger also spilled the beans on her SPM results. After taking a photo with Siti, the fan recalls the singer’s SPM results, to her utter astonishment.

She then turned to the camera and explained: “When it comes to my SPM results, I was so frustrated. I was targeting for Pangkat 1 (Grade 1) but I narrowly missed it.

“My overall aggregate was just one extra point (out of the Pangkat 1 bracket), so I got Pangkat 2 (Grade 2).”

She added: “Luckily I got Pangkat 2. If I got Pangkat 3, I had to get married and couldn’t become a singer!”

3. Pop queen loves the king of fruits

Siti Nurhaliza - singer, entrepreneur, and we just learned, durian lover.

Right after giving a performance at Balik Pulau, Penang, she returns to her hotel and without changing out of her performance clothes, Siti sits down and quite literally, enjoys the fruits of her labour.

The singer waited all day to get her durian fix. Earlier in the vlog, she makes plans with her staff to eat durians together and places an order from a stall beforehand, in case it closes by the time her singing engagement ends at night.

“I can only eat durians after I sing. If I eat them before, my voice will be gone,” she says.

After eating them, Siti teaches the rest of her team the age-old secret of dipping one’s hands in a durian shell filled with water to get rid of the prickly fruit’s strong smell. Now that’s the mark of a true-blue durian fan!

4. She has perfect aiming skills

While practising dance movements for an upcoming performance, Siti suggests adding the sumpit (blowpipe) to her performance.

(The sumpit is a traditional weapon which sees the hunter blowing into a pipe, sending the projectile inside it to its intended target, usually small animals.)

The singer shares she first used the sumpit to pop a balloon during her traditional music-themed Konsert Lentera Timur in 2013, as part of the show’s gimmick.

“We were wondering if she could really hit the balloon. To our surprise, all four nights (of the concert), she hit the target,” shares Rozi Abdul Razak, Siti’s manager.

5. She cooks up mouthwatering dishes

One of Siti’s most watched vlogs (over 750,000 views) sees her cooking up a storm for a dinner party. And it’s not hard to see why.

The dishes look absolutely to die for - deep fried crab in salted egg yolk, ikan patin masak tempoyak and her mum-in-law’s special curry recipe.

On the former, she advises: “For every crab, you need one salted egg yolk. So if you have 10 crabs, that’s 10 salted egg yolks.”

“You can add a little more and it’ll taste even better.” Agreed. One can never have too much salted egg yolk!
