Medicine has, since time immemorial, been an art and a science.

The latter became prominent only in the last half century. Until then, Medicine was an Art that was patient-centred, which was put succinctly by Hippocrates: “It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has.”
