Google Street View is giving armchair explorers an exceptional tour of the Mont Blanc massif, in the Alps, all in the company of seasoned sportspeople.

With Google's panoramic images and 360-degree videos of Mont Blanc, web users can discover nature at its wildest and explore stunning scenery with expert explorers on the terrain. Guides include climbers Catherine Destivelle and Ueli Steck, skier Candide Thovex, distance-runner Killian Jornet and mountaineers Patrick Gabarrou and Laetitia Roux. The tour is accompanied by audio accounts from the athletes, sharing the full beauty of this exceptional mountain range.

The project also takes Internet users to famous locations around Mont Blanc, such as Chamonix and Saint-Gervais in France and Courmayeur in Italy.

This incredible experience can be found in the Google Treks portal, and can also be accessed via Google Maps, Street View and YouTube.

Google made a similar online experience available a few months ago, covering the Yosemite National Park in California, United States. The virtual tour of Mont Blanc adds to Google's catalogue of virtual voyages, which already lets web users explore the trails and mountain refuges of Aconcagua in Argentina, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Mount Everest in Nepal.

It's even possible to hurtle down the slopes of several dozen ski resorts in France, Switzerland, Austria and the United States, all from the comfort of Google Street View. – AFP Relaxnews
