Just five bacteria are responsible for half of the deaths caused by bacterial infections worldwide. — AFP

Bacterial infections are the second leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for one in eight of all deaths in 2019.

This was revealed after the first global estimate of their lethality was published in The Lancet journal on Nov 22 (2022).
