Medical centre celebrates first year milestone


Sunway Medical Centre Velocity encourages Malaysians to focus on their health and wellbeing by providing accessible healthcare.

Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) celebrated its first anniversary from Aug 17 with its latest campaign #SMCVgivesKAWKAW.

Part of this campaign is the aim to encourage Malaysians to be more health-conscious, and SMCV has planned on running special complimentary tests and services with attractive prizes to celebrate its first year of operations.

“With the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), it is imperative to educate Malaysians on the importance of early detection and prevention through screenings and check-ups, ” said SMCV chief executive officer Choo Voon Chee.

“Therefore, through this campaign, we aspire to make healthcare services more accessible to everyone and encourage Malaysians to make their health a top priority.”

For each week, patients will also be able to enjoy screenings and consultations.

SMCV aims to make a difference in the healthcare industry within Kuala Lumpur by providing the community accessibility to their specialty services.

The women’s health department has mammogram and pap smear tests on Aug 17-21, as well as a couple fertility screening test.

The children’s health department has hearing and child eye tests on Aug 24-28.

On Aug 31-Sept 4, the eye, brain health and blood disorders departments will collectively offer eye and nerve tests. There will also be consultation with the consultant neurologist and neurosurgeon on those dates.

Then on Sept 3, a blood donation activity will be in progress, thanks to Pusat Darah Negara.

The following week, starting on Sept 7-11, the cancer, bladder and digestive health departments will offer tumour marker tests for both men and women; basic screen blood test for colorectal; and, consultation with consultant oncologist, general surgeon or gastroenterologist, bariatric surgeon, endocrinologist or urologist.

Attendees can also take part in uroflowmetry and a testosterone test, plus receive an offer for hematuria and urinary incontinence procedures.

The ear, nose and throat department along with the department of bone health on Sept 14-18 will offer bone mineral density tests, hearing screening and ear examination, and consultation with an ear, nose and throat consultant.

Other promotions held during that day include nasal endoscopy and ear toilet service.

The heart, lung and kidney health departments will provide electrocardiogram (ECG) and calcium score test, renal test and a consultation with a consultant nephrologist on Sept 21-30.

Throughout the campaign, SMCV will also be providing prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests and general blood test and tumour markers as well.

SMCV medical director and consultant emergency physician Dr Wee Tong Ming explained: “It is our duty to encourage Malaysians to prioritise their health, especially in recent times when health and wellbeing have taken precedence amid the pandemic.

“Regular check-ups and screenings are important steps to ensure that they are staying on top of their health, as early detection can save lives.”
