Caring for a memory- impaired parent.
THERE are an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 people with significant memory impairment in Malaysia. As a result, there is a silent, unrecognised band of Malaysians – mostly women (daughters) – who have chosen to take care of a loved one with such a condition, e.g. Alzheimer’s disease. This is a demanding job in itself, but many are not only caregiving. They are also raising their own children – and maybe working – at the same time.
