Warts and all

Dr TING HOON CHIN discusses warts and other lumps and bumps that tend to affect the skin of the ageing population.

The term “wart” used in a medical sense usually refers to a lump in the skin caused by a virus. However, in common usage a “wart” is perceived to be any hard lump that grows on the skin. It connotes some imperfection. To love or appreciate a person “warts and all” either literally or figuratively is noble but happens more often in fairy tales than in real life. Rare indeed is the girl who would kiss a warty toad to see if it would turn into a handsome prince. So most people would prefer to be without unsightly lumps and humps in the skin.
