IN MALAYSIA, unfortunately, cases of teachers having sexual relations with their students aren’t that rare either. Every once in a while, such stories will be covered in the media, although it is usually sexual abuse and/or rape rather than a consensual affair.

Legally speaking, however, sexual relations with or between anyone aged below 16 is considered statutory rape, regardless of whether or not it was consensual.
