Reusing plastics

NIPPON Steel has pioneered a way to recycle plastic waste. By breaking down the waste through thermal decomposition in a coke-oven that is used in steel-making, the process turns plastic waste into coke-oven gas, coke and hydrocarbon oil.

Nippon Steel introduced the process in its Kimitsu Works in Kitakyushu in 2002 and today, four others of its steel works recycle plastic in that manner.
