If I had to name three insects that I dislike, it would be cockroaches (especially the ones that fly), lizards and mosquitoes. What would be the top three things that you like or dislike?
Some children love to eat seafood, while others dislike the texture and smell of fish and prawns. Some kids love to explore new topics in class, while there are students who dislike subjects like Mathematics and Science.
Let’s find out what Starchild readers had to say about the topic, Likes And Dislikes.
“I like playing with toys because it is fun. I enjoy reading because there are so many adventures; and eating doughnuts because they are yummy. I do not like eating fish because I think it tastes yucky. I dislike climbing trees because I am scared that I will fall down,” writes Claire Yap Jyn Wei, six.
Older sibling Sophie Yap Jyn Qing, eight, doesn’t like frogs and toads because they are slimy and some species are poisonous.
“I like swimming, and climbing trees because I can use my hands and legs to pull myself up. I like painting too, because I can paint what I am thinking.”
Six-year-old Adelyn Hui-Ling Yeo loves magic, music and ballet.
“These activities are very relaxing. During my free time, I like to play video games too. On the other hand, I dislike dragonflies because I am scared of them. I also dislike flies. I love my little brother a lot but I dislike it when he destroys my toys and jewelry.”
“I like playing games like hide and seek, pin the tail on the donkey and Monopoly. I love to play on the swing too. I also like having tea parties with my toys and making craft items. I, however, don’t like waking up early in the morning, doing house chores and lots of homework,” writes Debria Preethi Jeyarajah, 10.
Jodie Tan Li Juen, 12, writes: “I have a sweet tooth so I crave sugary foods like ice cream and chocolate. I like listening to music while doing house chores. I dislike loud noises like doors being slammed and when people talk loudly on the phone. I hate noises that disturb my focus when I’m studying.”
Younger sibling Jayden Tan Li Sheng, eight, says: “Like my elder sister, I have a sweet tooth too. I like to eat sweet fruits. I like taking care of my pet, a hamster, and feeding it nuts and dried fruits. I dislike insects, especially cockroaches and flies. I am scared of cockroaches. Its legs and abdomen look disgusting.”
Seven year old Isabelle Ooi dislikes garlic because of its pungent smell. “While I dislike garlic, I like to eat carrots. It is rich in Vitamins A and K1. Carrots can be eaten in many ways - raw, juiced or cooked. It is my all-time favourite vegetable.”
“I like reading, building castles with various objects and playing outdoors, rain or shine! As for food, I enjoy eggs, western food, fruits as well as traditional goodies like kuih kapit and ang koo kuih. I dislike the taste of mushroom and chicken fat,” says six-year-old Bethany Wang Qi Syuen.

Asher Wang Qi Chuen, three, enjoys chatting, colouring, and eating different types of dairy products and Vitamin C tablets.
“I like to wave to the friendly rubbish collectors that pass by my house. Fishball is one of the few foods I don’t enjoy. I also do not like flies to contaminate my food and mosquitoes that bite me." – Compiled by Sheela Chandran
