Peter Mui Kai Ming, the brother of late Hong Kong diva Anita Mui, has lashed out at his nephew after he was excluded from his mother Tam Mei Kam’s funeral on Sept 19.
Tam, who was 102, died on Aug 30.
In a recent interview with Hong Kong media, Peter – who had earlier threatened to seek a court injunction to prevent his mother’s cremation – accused his nephew of taking control of the funeral arrangements and treating him as though he did not exist.
He also claimed that both Tam and Anita were afraid of fire, alleging that his mother had previously expressed her wish not to be cremated.
“My mother lived a long life. We should have let her rest in peace, but (my nephew) cremated her. This person is not only heartless. He’s also cold-blooded,” he said.
Peter said he had instructed his lawyer to demand that his nephew produce Tam’s will, but claimed that two weeks had passed without it being provided.
When asked about his mother’s inheritance, Peter estimated that her assets were worth more than HK$10mil (RM5.2mil).
He further alleged that his nephew wanted Tam to “die sooner” so he could gain access to her assets.
“As long as my mother was alive, he couldn’t get his hands on the money,” he said.
Peter also accused his nephew of deliberately driving a wedge between him and Tam behind the scenes.
“I came out of my mother’s womb. How could I not know what she was thinking or doing? But (my nephew) was different. He was calculating and had everything planned,” he said.
Addressing accusations that he was greedy for money, Peter denied being interested in his mother or sister’s wealth, saying he had supported himself from a young age.
“If I wanted to rely on my sister’s money, I wouldn’t be where I am today. People keep saying I’m greedy for money, but what money am I greedy for? I have my dignity. I started working when I was 12 and I’ve never stopped,” he said.
