Malaysian actress Jacquelin Ch'ng has been criticised by her younger sister Mona over a TV segment in which she attempted to communicate with their late mother, Datin Kong Yuk Chu.
The 46-year-old, who's based in Hong Kong, recently appeared on a variety show with a contestant named Angel, who claimed to relay messages from Kong.
During the session, Angel said the late matriarch – who died aged 82 in August – apologised for leaving Ch'ng to care for her younger siblings and claimed that she had experienced pain before her death.
Angel also correctly identified a gift Kong had given Ch'ng in 2002 and explained its significance, prompting the actress to describe the reading as "very accurate"
However, Mona, 39, later disputed the claims in a lengthy social media post, urging viewers not to take the segment seriously and insisting that "not a single thing is true".
She said the doctors who treated their mother had confirmed that Kong did not suffer before her death, adding: "She passed away very peacefully."
Mona also refuted the suggestion that Ch'ng had been responsible for caring for her younger siblings, saying they grew up with domestic helpers and were largely independent.
"There was never a situation where any of us needed to look after one another," she added.
Mona ended her post with a pointed remark about keeping family matters private and letting their mother rest in peace, writing: "The person who spent the least time with mum and cared for her the least when she was alive shouldn't be the one saying the most after she's gone."
Ch'ng has not publicly responded to Mona's criticism, but she did share a cryptic message about severing ties on her Instagram Story.
"Some relationships can be resolved simply by deciding, 'I don't want this anymore.' This is not indifference. It's about giving your life back to yourself," the TVB star wrote.
The post fuelled speculation that Ch'ng was referring to Mona, but when approached by the media, the actress simply said: "Sorry, no comment."
