Hong Kong actor Ruco Chan recently travelled to Melaka to film a Chinese New Year movie.
During a break from filming, the 49-year-old took the opportunity to visit a local restaurant with his wife, former Miss Hong Kong finalist Phoebe Sin.
However, the couple – who married in 2018 – encountered a few hiccups when they arrived, prompting Chan to air his frustration on social media.
In a post, the TVB star said he and Sin, 36, arrived at the restaurant at 5.45pm, only to be told they could not enter as the establishment would not open until 6pm.
When they returned later, however, they were told that the restaurant was already fully booked.
Chan complained that they had not been allowed to make a reservation despite arriving early.
According to China Press, he later shared a photo of himself outside the restaurant, commenting: “Haha, what kind of service attitude is this nowadays?”
Chan’s post has drawn mixed reactions from netizens.
Some pointed out that the restaurant had already clearly stated online that reservations were required, and he should have done his research.
“The restaurant has already stated on Google that reservations are required. Rules must be followed,” one user commented on Facebook.
Another added: “If you don't mind queuing, you can wait a bit. Many restaurants don’t offer special privileges or queue-free service just because someone is a celebrity.”
Meanwhile, others sympathised with Chan, saying the staff could have informed him and his wife that walk-ins were not accepted, rather than having them make a second trip.
