Taiwanese actor Matt Jiang, 71, has confirmed his romance with Tong Xin, a woman 24 years his junior, China Press reported.
In a recent interview with Taiwanese media, Jiang revealed that Tong had followed his work for years and even wrote letters to him as a fan while growing up.
The pair crossed paths by chance many years later when Jiang accidentally sent Tong a friend request on Facebook after misunderstanding one of the platform's features.
What started as an unexpected online connection gradually developed into a friendship.
Their bond grew closer after Jiang invited Tong to attend a Buddhist lecture with him. Over time, their friendship blossomed into romance.
On Thursday (Aug 6), Jiang shared several photos of himself and Tong from his birthday celebration.
He wrote in his post: "I originally didn't plan to celebrate my birthday, but Tong Xin suggested inviting some close friends to gather together. I happily accepted her kind gesture, and everyone had a wonderful time gathering and chatting."
According to Taiwanese media reports, Tong is a highly accomplished academic. She graduated from National Taiwan University, reportedly has an IQ of 146 and is currently working as a researcher in the United States.
Meanwhile, Jiang – who made his acting debut in the 1970s – has largely stepped away from showbiz in recent years.
The actor – known for his roles in the 1987 dramas Yi Dai Ge Hou and The Legend Of Pearl – now spends much of his time studying Buddhism, as well as managing his Facebook account and YouTube channel.
