Hong Kong actress Michelle Wai was rushed to hospital on July 30 after sustaining a serious facial injury while filming her new drama, Lies Hunter.

Her husband, aesthetic doctor Kenley Chau, revealed in a statement that Wai, 41, suffered heavy bleeding after broken glass caused a deep tear to her upper lip.

According to Hong Kong outlet The Standard, the injury damaged Wai’s skin, lip tissue, muscles and a blood vessel.

She required more than 50 stitches, while doctors also removed several glass fragments from the wound during surgery.

Wai has since suspended all professional commitments to focus on her recovery at home.

The Last Dance star also took to social media to assure fans that the operation went smoothly and expressed gratitude to the medical staff who treated her.

“I’d like to also apologise to the production team and clients affected by delays to filming. I’ll try to recover as soon as possible so I can return to work quickly,” she wrote.
