Former Hong Kong actress Amy Yip thrilled Malaysian fans in September 2024 when she launched her first boutique hotel in Penang.
Three months later, the 59-year-old revealed plans to invest in a durian-themed hotel in the state, adding that it would mark the second of four hotels she intends to develop there.
According to reports, Yip recently announced that the durian-themed hotel is set to open next year, with plans for it to attain five-star status.
The Robotrix star, famous for her past roles in Category III films, expressed excitement about her upcoming project.
“Running a hotel is a long-term endeavour that requires time and learning. I have a good working relationship with my business partner, who respects me a lot,” she said.
Yip added that the hotel was initially slated to open this year, but the timeline was pushed back after she decided further improvements were needed.
“I wanted to do a better job and design it more beautifully. I’m aiming for it to be a five-star hotel,” she said.
For the record, Yip has strong affection for Malaysia and has even named durian as her all-time favourite delicacy in the country.
In February last year, she made headlines after ordering two patin fish – each weighing nearly 6kg – to be flown in from Malaysia for a Chinese New Year feast in Hong Kong.
