The first teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released on Wednesday (Nov 12), coinciding with star Anne Hathaway’s 43rd birthday.

The 52-second clip features Meryl Streep walking into an elevator, where she’s joined by Hathaway, who barely gets inside before the door closes.

“Took you long enough,” Streep fittingly says in the preview for a sequel that took 19 years to come.

Streep was nominated for an Academy Award for her 2006 performance in The Devil Wears Prada, in which she played a character very much resembling Vogue boss Anna Wintour.

Hathaway played an aspiring journalist who’s hired as the frosty fashion magazine editor’s tireless assistant. It’s not clear what the dynamic between those characters will be when The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits theatres on May 1.

The sequel also brings back actors Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, who will be joined by pop star Lady Gaga, according to Variety.

There was speculation Wintour would appear in the film after she was spotted speaking with Streep and Tucci at a June Dolce & Gabbana fashion show, however Entertainment Weekly reported that will not be the case. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
