Taiwanese actress Joe Chen has put to rest the rumours claiming that her husband, Malaysian artist Alan Chen, has an illegitimate child.
The couple, who registered their marriage in Taipei City on March 31, 2022, recently appeared together on a mainland variety show, where they openly showed their affection for each other.
During the episode, Joe, 46, laughed off the question when asked about the gossip, noting that such rumours often spiral far beyond the truth.
The Fated To Love You (2008) star even shared a funny story about a friend who, unable to resist curiosity, personally asked her whether the speculation was true.
“My friend told me that my husband had a child outside (our marriage), brought the child home and introduced them to my mother-in-law, who accepted them,” she shared.
Joe recalled teasingly replying to her friend: “Oh really? Is it a boy or a girl?”
Turning to her husband, the actress playfully repeated the question, to which Alan – who’s nine years her junior – laughed and said: “I haven’t even heard about this myself!”
Joe, who has never shied away from addressing online gossip, revealed that when she first got wind of the rumour, she didn’t feel angry but helpless.
“However, this is part and parcel of being in the (entertainment) industry. All I can do is let go and treat it as a topic that entertains everyone,” she added.
For the record, Joe has expressed multiple times that she has no interest in having children.
The actress said having children is a personal choice, and regardless of whether someone wants them or not, their decision should be respected.
Joe and Alan met on the Chinese reality dating programme Meeting Mr Right II in 2019.
The couple held their wedding ceremony in Langkawi, Kedah, on Sept 22, 2024. The place holds significance for them as it’s where Alan first asked Joe to be his girlfriend.
