Hong Kong actress Carina Lau has earned praise from netizens for her poised response after Chinese actress He Saifei urged her to have children.

In a recent episode of the Chinese variety show The Blooming Journey, He, 62, and Lau, 59, engaged in an open discussion on various topics.

When the subject of childbirth came up, Lau – who’s been married to superstar Tony Leung Chiu-wai since 2008 – said: “I’m someone who simply doesn’t want to have children.”

He then questioned how life could continue without children, adding: “We need to carry on the family line!”

In response, Lau told her friend not to say such things, saying she disagreed with that viewpoint.

Despite being pressed on the matter, Lau maintained that having children is a personal decision that shouldn’t be subject to outside judgment.

“It’s no one else’s business,” the former TVB star said, adding that she and her husband are a mature couple who have already carefully planned their life together.

Netizens have since praised Lau for her thoughtful and measured response, while others commended the confidence with which she stood her ground.

“Having children is a choice, not an obligation. It takes courage to break free from societal expectations,” read one comment.

For the record, Leung, 63, once revealed in a past interview that he doesn’t know how to handle kids, as he was affected by witnessing his parents’ frequent quarrels during his childhood.

Although he’s often seen interacting affectionately with children on film sets, the acclaimed actor has admitted that he doesn’t see himself as suited for fatherhood.

Meanwhile, Lau once shared that she had briefly considered having a child but ultimately chose to respect Leung’s feelings, agreeing that parenthood carries immense responsibility.

“We can’t guarantee giving a child enough security,” she said.

It’s worth mentioning that while Lau doesn’t have any children of her own, she’s godmother to Chinese actor Hu Jun’s son.
