Singaporean actress Ya Hui, 38, will be acting in her first English-language drama in 13 years.

On Aug 23, she uploaded to social media photos of her posing in a uniform and with her co-stars Elvin Ng and Charlie Goh. They are starring in new police drama Honour And Unity, scheduled for release in November.

“Feels so good to be back to acting after a year,” Ya Hui wrote in English. “The last English drama I did was Point Of Entry, 13 years ago.”

Point Of Entry (2010 to 2014) was a Channel 5 drama about a team of special agents from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, and their fight to keep the borders safe from smuggling and illegal immigration.

Ya Hui played a new team member in the drama starring Carl Ng, Bernard Tan and Jaymee Ong.

On her present role in Honour And Unity, Ya Hui said: “Every day feels like an oral exam for me, but I think that’s the excitement of it.”

She added that her English improved after three weeks of intense training. “Thank you to all my English teachers on set,” she wrote. “Last but not least, thanks to the funniest and kindest bunch for making this production so joyful.”

Ya Hui, who left broadcaster Mediacorp in 2023, was last seen on the big screen in action-comedy Baby Hero, which opened in Singapore cinemas in January.

She played Meng Meng, a Singaporean tourist holidaying in a small Thai village. The Thailand-Singapore production also starred Wang Weiliang, Hayley Woo and Long Lee.

Meanwhile, Elvin Ng also posted on social media photos of himself with Ya Hui and Goh on the set of Honour And Unity.

“Our #August spent #filming together, it’s been short and sweet,” the 44-year-old wrote. “Here’s to Honour & Unity, see you soon in November.” – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
