The family of Japanese actress Nagiko Tono (pic) has confirmed her death at the age of 45.

The announcement was posted Thursday on Tono’s official blog.

The statement read: “The deceased lived her life to the fullest every day for her beloved cat. We hope that you will understand this sentiment."

Tono, whose real name was Akimi Aoki, was found dead on July 3 in her Tokyo apartment.

Japanese news outlet Tokyo Sports reported that a decomposed body was discovered at the apartment after an acquaintance, who had been unable to reach the actress, went to check on her.

“It seems that the body was sent for a DNA test because it was so badly decomposed that it was unclear whether it was her. It will likely take some time for the identification,” a police source told the news outlet on July 4.

Police have ruled out foul play.

“The police have determined that it was an accident and not suicide,” the family's statement said.

The blog post also gave an update on Tono's beloved cat, saying, “We have also received many voices of concern from people, but the cat that the deceased cherished during her life has been safely rescued and is currently living happily in a safe environment.”

The statement ended with the family thanking fans for their support for Tono. "We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who supported the deceased until now.”

Tono started acting at the age of six and had appeared in many TV shows including Suzuran and Out x Deluxe.
