Singaporean actress-model Sheila Sim is feeling less stress over her tresses after undergoing a two-day hair transplant procedure.

The 40-year-old disclosed on Instagram Stories on Nov 6 that ever since she started modelling in 2001, she received feedback that her hair was thinning.

“Why I had a bald spot is because when I was young, I used to pluck my hair,” she said.

She posted photos of her sparse crown, writing: “These were my thinning areas and bald spots that were usually covered up with hair fibres.”

Sim gave her followers a look at the shaved portions at the back of her head and red puncture holes where the donor hair follicles were transplanted.

“What I did today – 1,601 grafts,” she wrote on Nov 7, and admitted to feeling “very groggy” after taking painkillers.

On Nov 8, she posted a video of her wearing a beanie and going for the second day of the hair transplant, as her husband Deon Woo, a credit specialist in banking, and their daughters Layla, four, and Skyla, 1½, dropped her off at the clinic.

She said: “The discomfort level - I would say about three or four (out of 10).”

She then thanked her doctor and his team in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of her bandaged head.

The 1.74m-tall star wrote: “Being tall has been somewhat advantageous as the thinning spots aren’t immediately noticeable to others. However, when seated, the secret I’ve been carefully hiding on the crown of my head becomes visible.”

Sim said taking the step towards addressing her “prominent” hair loss has been both exciting and nerve-racking, but she is confident she made the right choice by opting for the hair transplant.

“I look forward to sharing my transformation journey with you all in the coming months,” she said. “When I’m feeling less groggy, perhaps, I could even get onto (an Instagram Live).” – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
