South Korean singer V of K-pop boy band BTS is set to release a new version of the Christmas classic White Christmas – in collaboration with its original singer, the late American singer-actor Bing Crosby.

According to BTS’ label BigHit Music, V has reinterpreted a part of Crosby’s iconic 1942 hit that remains a beloved seasonal classic worldwide.

The song will be released on Dec 6 in partnership with the estate of Bing Crosby, Primary Wave Music and Geffen Records.

The collaboration is deeply personal for V, 28, who has expressed admiration for Crosby for years.

“I’m so grateful to have had a chance to be featured in a song with my all-time favourite jazz artiste Bing Crosby,” V said in a press statement on Nov 7.

“I grew up listening to his song It’s Been A Long, Long Time countless times a day, and I feel incredibly fortunate and honoured to have sung along on White Christmas with the voice of someone I consider an idol.”

V, whose real name is Kim Tae-hyung, posted on social media a cover of It’s Been A Long, Long Time (1945) in 2022, showcasing his respect for the legendary artiste. Currently serving in the South Korean military, V is set to be discharged in June 2025.

Crosby, who has a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is considered one of the greatest stars of the 20th century. He died in 1977 at the age of 74.

The posthumous collaboration with V is to be Crosby’s first in 47 years, since the Christmas song Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy (1977) with late English singer David Bowie.

White Christmas is a global favourite that has been covered by numerous top singers, including Michael Buble, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.

Crosby’s daughter Mary Crosby said in a statement: “As a family, we are thrilled to have V and dad singing together on this ultimate Christmas song. Their voices blend beautifully, capturing the holiday spirit in the best possible way.” — The Korea HeraldAsia News Network
