Hong Kong actress Bambi Lok has announced her departure from showbiz just three years after making her debut.

In an Instagram Reel on Oct 8, the 23-year-old revealed that she made the decision after completing filming the 2026 drama Themis, in which she stars alongside renowned actress Charmaine Sheh.

She also revealed that she had moved to Canada nearly a month ago to pursue further studies in psychology.

“I have given up my identity as a Hong Kong actress. In my second year in the industry, I was given an opportunity that many might not get even after 10 years. But after filming (Themis), I decided to walk away,” she said.

Lok acknowledged that while many people believe staying in their comfort zone is the safest option, she has chosen to take a different path.

“The world is much bigger than we think! When you decide to start from zero and let go of everything you have, you will realise that you have nothing to lose. When you have nothing, every step you take is a gain,” she said.

Lok had initially planned to further her studies in Canada after graduating from secondary school in 2022, but friends persuaded her to join TVB’s artiste training programme instead.

She made her acting debut in the TVB sitcom Come Home Love: Lo And Behold in 2023 and went on to appear in several productions, including The Queen of News (2023), No Room for Crime (2024) and The Queen of Castle (2025).
