Singaporean actress Rebecca Lim has celebrated her first birthday as a mother.

The Third Rail (2022) actress, who turned 38 on Sept 26, posted photos of her birthday celebration with her loved ones on the same day.

In the photos, Lim sports a white dress and carries her son with her husband Matthew Webster by their side. The couple celebrated with two cakes – one with a pink bow and another one adorned with flowers from The Floral Atelier and a big sparkler candle.

The gathering was also attended by Lim’s close friends, including her long-time make-up artist Shaun Lee, her hairstylist Dexter Ng, and founder of wedding planning and floral design studios The Wedding Atelier and The Floral Atelier, Lelian Chew. Lee is also the godfather of Lim’s son.

Lim gave birth to her son – whose name she has declined to reveal to the media – on Jan 30 and has yet to return to acting. Her last project was the psychological horror movie Confinement (2023).

She wrote in her post: “So incredibly blessed. Thank you for all the birthday wishes.”

Webster, a 38-year-old Singaporean of British-Chinese descent who works in corporate branding, also posted a picture of the celebration on Sept 26.

He wrote: “Happy birthday to my dearest, wonderful love. I don’t know where I’d be today without you.”

The couple tied the knot in November 2022 at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, with a 600-guest wedding dinner. They had met through friends at the beginning of 2021 and started dating soon after.

Lim recently opened up about the challenges of motherhood in a September interview with fashion magazine Elle, in which she spoke candidly about how tough the first month after giving birth was.

She said: “I was in pain and I lost my sense of independence. I’ve always prided myself on doing everything myself, so it felt like a lot to give up.”

She also shared that she struggled with “mum guilt” because she did not have enough breast milk and had to feed her baby formula milk.

She managed to tide through the emotional highs and lows of the first few postnatal months with the help of loved ones, including her younger sister, who gave birth two weeks after Lim did. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
