After months of wondering whether Malaysia will be featured in the upcoming Marvel movie, Thunderbolts*, the answer is finally here.

On Monday (Sept 23), Marvel Studios unveiled the film’s first teaser trailer on YouTube.

At the one-minute and four-second mark, English actress Florence Pugh, portraying the lead character Yelena Belova, appears at a familiar Malaysian location.

According to observant netizens, the scene was shot at Medan Pasar in Kuala Lumpur, with the former Menara HSBC South Tower in the background.

Earlier in July, Pugh seemingly confirmed that she had filmed at KL’s Merdeka 118, which is the second tallest building in the world (678.9m).

When asked by Variety magazine about the biggest stunt she executed for her movie, the 28-year-old simply replied: “Jumping off the second tallest building in the world.”

Many Malaysian fans have expressed their excitement about their home country being featured in a major Hollywood production.

One Marvel fan told StarLifestyle that while she was aware of the rumours about Thunderbolts* being filmed in Malaysia, receiving a confirmation made her even more excited.

“I heard about Florence shooting a skydiving scene at Merdeka 118, so I hope we will get to see that and more Malaysian landmarks in the film,” Fatin said.

Another netizen on X (formerly Twitter) added: “They filmed parts of Thunderbolts* in KL. Have to watch the movie for Malaysia.”

Rumours of Pugh filming in KL surfaced in June when a fan account on X claimed the Don't Worry Darling actress was in the city to film a Marvel movie.

The speculations were further fuelled when her sister Arabella Gibbins shared a photo of the Petronas Twin Towers on her Instagram account and tagged Pugh in the post.

Thunderbolts* follows a team of anti-heroes conducting covert operations for the government of the United States.

The movie, set for release on May 2, 2025, also stars Sebastian Stan, David Harbour and Geraldine Viswanathan.
