Hong Kong actress Alice Fung is bidding farewell to TVB after a three-decade tenure with the broadcaster.

The 79-year-old disclosed the reason behind her departure in a recent interview, citing the broadcaster’s ever-evolving system as unfit for older talents like herself.

“The system has undergone numerous changes which are unsuitable for older people like myself.

“I hope there will come a day when TVB will find me suitable and we can work together again. This goodbye isn’t forever,” she told HK01.

Fung – who joined TVB in the 1990s – added that it was not easy for the broadcaster to support many employees, especially amidst fierce competition from other media platforms.

She also revealed that she has been getting less acting offers which affected her income.

“We are old and cannot do many things yet TVB still has to support us which is a difficult burden,” she said.

Fung also announced her departure from the broadcaster in an Instagram post on March 13.

The actress debuted in the 1950s as a child star and has starred in various TVB dramas like The File of Justice (1992), Dragon Love (1999), Triumph In The Skies (2003) and more.

“From the big screen to the small screen, from the small screen to the phone screen, from being young to having grey hair, the journey of more than 30 years has finally come to an end.

“I consider myself lucky to work side by side with so many amazing colleagues. I was fortunate enough to be supported and loved by fellow audience members too.

“Every applause and recognition serves as motivation for me to persevere,” she said.
