Malaysian director Lau Kok-rui, who won two Golden Horse awards for Best New Director and Best Original Screenplay with The Sunny Side Of The Street last month, has officially tied the knot with his fiancee, Mavis.

Local singer Karen Kong broke the news on Sunday (Dec 5) with a group photo of herself with the wedded couple as well as another Malaysian-born artiste Fish Liew.

Kong's Facebook post read: "Congratulations to director Lau Kok-rui. This is double happiness. You won two Golden Horse awards. Now you’re married to the best, most thoughtful and beautiful wife, Mavis. Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness."

Lau previously teased about his marriage with Mavis – who hails from Hong Kong – during the celebration banquet at the 59th Golden Horse Awards.

He also thanked her onstage after receiving his trophies.

The 32-year-old filmmaker told Sin Chew that his wife kept him going during his toughest moments.

“I’m so grateful to have Mavis by my side all these years. I initially wanted to give up on making movies, but she encouraged me to continue working on my craft even though she isn’t a filmmaker,” he said.

Lau shared that his family attended the wedding registration in Hong Kong. At the moment, he has no plans on returning to Malaysia to hold the wedding ceremony.
