For some people, art is a great way to express oneself. For actor Simon Yam, it is a great way to ... communicate with aliens!

On Nov 28, the Hong Kong star attended the Shanghai-Hong Kong Ink Art Tour Exhibition 2022 held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre where he displayed two of his paintings.

While the 67-year-old has been painting for a long time, he only became interested in pursuing a career as an artist during the two-year pandemic.

“I have created 30 works so far. The longest one took me two days to complete,” said the SPL: Sha Po Lang star.

Yam, who received critical acclaim for his performance in the Hollywood film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle Of Life, revealed that he uses the theme “Yuan” to draw the appearance of aliens for his art pieces.

“If you look closely, you will notice that all my paintings have a pair of eyes in them. This is to convey the message that I am always watching people,” he explained to Hong Kong media, adding that he hopes to communicate with aliens through his paintings.

Hong Kong actress Donna Chu, who was also invited to exhibit two of her paintings, showed support for Yam's "alien" paintings, calling it a unique concept.

"He really is a man full of hidden talents and surprises. I'm just so amazed by his unique artistic expression," she told Singtao.

Yam has also keen interest in photography. In fact, the Naked Killer star has held photography exhibitions in Hong Kong, Thailand, China and Singapore.

In 2017, Yam published a photography book, Hong Kong: Views From Another Perspective, which contains a selection of 120 photographs documenting the architectural history of Hong Kong.

Yam intends to compile the paintings he did during the pandemic into an album and hold a solo art exhibition next year.
