One of the Hong Kong films showcased at the recently-concluded Asian Cinerama held at GSC Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, was Far Far Away.
This movie has been circulating the international films festivals since premiering at the 2021 Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.
To mark the special screening of Far Far Away in Malaysia, the organisers held a virtual Q&A session with director Amos Why and actress Jennifer Yu.
Far Far Away revolves around a computer nerd who becomes the centre of attention among five women who live in different remote neighbourhoods of Hong Kong.
Actress Yu plays his university friend, Melanie, who lives in one of those “far, far, away” places.
The filming location for Yu’s character took place at Lantau Island, which is located West of Hong Kong Island, and primarily consists of mountainous terrain.
During the virtual session, director Why asked if Yu felt rushed during the shoot as the entire movie was shot in just 12 days.
The 29-year-old actress told him: “Yes, we were rushing for the last boat out of the island. Otherwise we would be stranded there until the next morning”.
Although she may have felt rushed, the actress thanked Why for giving her the freedom to interpret the character as she saw fit.
Asian Cinerama was first introduced in 2015, and has been held in Hong Kong and other countries including Malaysia.
Asian Cinerama – Hong Kong Focus (Malaysia) was organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy, in collaboration with Golden Screen Cinemas, GSC Movies, Create Hong Kong and Film Development Fund.
The three-day festival, held from Oct 7-9, showcased Far Far Away, Coffin Homes, Time, Shadows, Showbiz Spy, A Murder Erased and Remember What I Forgot.
