There’s something about coming out of retirement. Cameron Diaz is opening up about her upcoming return to acting after nearly a decade-long hiatus.

The Charlie’s Angels and There’s Something About Mary star, 50, told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that she’s both nervous and excited to return to the spotlight in Netflix’s Back In Action.

“It’s a little bit of muscle memory, you know what I mean?” Diaz said. “I did that for so long, it’s kind of like the process – I just fell back into it. But it feels a little bit different.”

The action-comedy won’t just reunite Diaz with her on-screen career, but also co-star Jamie Foxx, whom she acted alongside in Any Given Sunday and her last film, the 2014 remake of the musical, Annie.

“I’ve also made two movies with Jamie Foxx, which is amazing. ... The first movie back is this film with Jamie,” she told Fallon. “He’s so great, he’s so easy, he’s so professional, he’s so talented. And just being able to work with him, it’ll be so much fun.”

Diaz has been busy during her time away from acting. She welcomed daughter Raddix with husband Benji Madden, published her second book, and even launched a clean wine brand, Avaline.

Two years ago, Diaz said that ditching Hollywood gave her the chance “to finally take care of myself”.

“It’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there,” Diaz told Gwyneth Paltrow in 2020 for the web show In Goop Health. “There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there.”

She announced her return to movies earlier this summer, a decision she credited to the Good Charlotte rocker, 43.

Madden, a family source told People in early July, “encouraged her to unretire” and “is very excited” for her comeback. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
