Created and directed by Christopher Miller, with Phil Lord as the executive producer, The Afterparty is a highly-entertaining comedy-mystery that invites viewers to solve the whodunnit along with the detective on the show.
The evening in question begins with a 15-year high school reunion that continues with a gathering at the home of a schoolmate who is now a celebrity (Dave Franco).
However, at this location the host is murdered, and one of the guests is the killer.
The charm of the series not only lies in the actors’ performance and the writing, but also in how the series is constructed. Each episode is told from a different person's point of view and in a genre fitting to the character's personality.
This is due to Detective Danner's (Tiffany Haddish) method to find out the truth.
"We're all stars of our own movie," Danner tells the people gathered at the celebrity’s home in the first episode.
"The same thing could happen but you see it in a different way, and as a part of my process ... I want to hear your story, I want to hear your mind movie."
Watch the first episode told in the romantic genre from the perspective of Aniq (Sam Richardson). This episode will be up on YouTube until Feb 7, 3.59pm MYT.
In a virtual interview with international press, which included StarLifestyle, Miller (Lego Movie) talked about clues and Easter eggs he's included in the show.
He said: “There are two types of clues – there’s the ones that are part of the show itself, like, actual murder mystery style clues.
“And then there’s also a bunch of these hidden coded messages that are like bonus clues for people who are into, you know, ciphers and puzzles. It's so that they can freeze a frame and look at something and, get an added bonus to it. Every episode has multiples of those.
“But even if you don't do any of those – sort of, you know – extra nerdy bonus clues, there are real story clues hidden in the show itself.
“So that hopefully by the final episode, you're surprised who (has) done it. But you are also like, I should have seen it; I should have realised it because it was all right there.
“You have everything you need to solve the mystery.”
The first three episodes of The Afterparty are available on Apple TV+. A new episode will be made available every Friday.
