Many young, upcoming singers cite Adele as an inspiration but who did Adele look up to when she was young?

At a concert special – which was aired on Britain's ITV on Nov 22 – Adele was asked by actress Emma Thompson (one of the many celeb attendees at the concert) if there was anyone who inspired her when she was younger.

Adele named her English teacher.

"Yeah, I had a teacher at Chestnut Grove who taught me English. That was Miss McDonald," the singer said, adding that she never stayed in touch with the teacher.

"She left in Year Eight but she got me really into literature, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics ...

"She was so bloody cool, so engaging, and she really made us care, and we knew that she cared about us and stuff like that ... She was so relatable and likeable, that I really looked forward to my English lessons."

Thompson then surprised the singer by inviting the English teacher on stage.

Stunned at first, Adele then started crying as she and the teacher embraced and exchanged greetings.

"Thank you for remembering me," the teacher told Adele.

"No, you really did change my life. Mum! Mum, can you believe it?" said Adele, calling out to her mum who was also in the audience.

She told Miss McDonald that she still has all the books from her class.

The 33-year-old singer also asked for her teacher's number so that she could contact her. Adele cried so much that she had to excuse herself so that she could get her make-up touched up. Watch the short clip below.
