Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have decided that going back to being just friends was the right move to make after being together for over two years.
On Wednesday (Nov 17), the duo took to their personal Instagram accounts to announce that they have officially broken up. "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends," they both wrote.
Mendes, 23, and Cabello, 24, also showed their appreciation to the fans who supported them since the start of their relationship and hoped for their continued support moving forward.
This announcement came as a surprise to fans as things seemed to be going smoothly for the couple. Mendes had only just posted a series of pictures and a video on Nov 1 which showed off the couple's costumes for Halloween.
The pair could be seen dressed in matching costumes in honour of the Day Of The Dead and were even happily dancing in the video.
Mendes and Cabello started dating in July 2019 after the release of their duet, Senorita. Though many speculated they were dating at that time, they kept their status a secret until finally announcing it on Instagram.
While neither of the stars had previously hinted of issues in the relationship, Cabello revealed to Glamour in October that they had both been going for therapy sessions.
The purpose of this, however, was not to resolve any problems, but to understand each other better. "For better, for worse, we’re very transparent with each other. I think that’s why we can trust each other so much, because it’s a very 3D human relationship," she shared.
