Former RTM newsreader Kamaruddin Ahmad passes away at age 78


Kamaruddin Ahmad had worked at RTM for 20 years.

Former RTM newsreader Kamaruddin Ahmad passed away at 7am today (Sept 2) at his home in Bukit Sentosa, Selangor, due to old age. He was 78.

His death was confirmed by his son Kamarul Zaidi Kamaruddin to Malay-language news portal BH Online.

According to the report, Kamaruddin suffered from diabetes and pain in the prostate area. He also had body ache and cough.

“He had lost his appetite for several months now, and due to that he lost a lot of weight,” Kamarul told BH Online.

Kamaruddin had worked at RTM for 20 years. During that time, he's noted as the first television presenter in the history of national broadcasting, working with the late Wan Chik Daud.

Kamaruddin is survived by a widow, eight children, 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was laid to rest at Bukit Beruntung Muslim Cemetery in Selangor, this afternoon.
