Hawaiian-born actress Maggie Q is currently promoting her new film The Protégé with the American press.

The film showcases the 42-year-old executing some cool action sequences, including one – that Q described as the scariest stunt she had ever done – where she jumps backwards off a building.

And she had to do all of these, after having had a major operation on her spine two months prior to The Protégé shoot.

“I didn’t have time to train because I had come out of surgery, and then I was on bed rest and then I had to go right into making this film,” Q told one news outlet.

In order to get into the fighting form fast, Q shared that she relied on her years of conditioning work with Jackie Chan from her early days of her acting career in Hong Kong (1996 to 2005).

After being spotted by Chan as a potential action star, Q underwent his intensive training before starring in films like Gen-Y Cops and Rush Hour 2.

“Because of my background and my 20 years of experience, I was able to bring to the table that muscle memory. It was intense,” she stated recently.

In another interview, Q spoke on what she admires about the 67-year-old Chan, who has acted in more than 100 action films.

The Nikita star said: “I find it incredible that he can bring something exciting and fresh every single time he's on screen, no matter what he’s doing.

“And that's why he's so successful. I mean he just finds a way to reinvent himself within a genre, and it's never boring. I think that's the thing I love about him most.”
