In conjunction with the 20-year mark since Anbe (My Love) was released, Malaysian singer Sasi The Don decided to re-record the track and release it in his new album My Second Wave (out in March).
Since the artiste is now known as the Reggae Ambassador of Asia, the updated Anbe carries a stronger reggae sound.
According to the singer, the song has garnered the attention of Jamaicans after premiering on Jamaican national TV recently.
Sasi told a Jamaican news outlet: “The reggae and dancehall movement in Malaysia is growing steadily. I'm one of the artistes who has been at the forefront of it for over two decades, and I want to create a link between Jamaica and Malaysia with my music."
Likewise, the song is getting notice in India as well, Sasi shared.
Besides the Tamil lyrics in the song, the animation work featured in the new music video is done by Mumbai-based artists.
Sasi told StarLifestyle: “Being able to revive my big hit Anbe (My Love) after 20 years, is a great privilege and I am truly blessed.
“It has given me the opportunity to reconnect with my past and also build a future with new and younger audiences beyond Malaysia, and now with India and Jamaica.”
In previous interview Sasi described Anbe as the song that opened doors for him.
“A lot of people love that song, and have connected with it on different levels," he said.
He wanted to revisit Anbe to remind himself of all the good things in the past and share that same notion with the listeners who are facing challenges especially during the pandemic.
“What I felt was, currently a lot of people are feeling the pain, the pinch, and I wanted to encourage them by rewinding a little and enjoying the past a little."
